David Pickel

David Pickel is a Georgetown Humanities Initiative Postdoctoral Scholar at Georgetown University. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2021. His work explores the intersections of human health and the environment in the ancient world, applying interdisciplinary approaches to better understand how economic systems, social institutions, practices, and artifacts shaped disease ecologies in the past. In the field, this research has focused on rural and urban landscapes in Roman Italy, including the middle 5th-century CE infant and child cemetery at Poggio Gramignano (Lugnano in Teverina, Italy).
