Hilary Becker is associate professor of Classical Studies at Binghamton University-SUNY. She earned her A.B. at Bryn Mawr College and her M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her scholarship focuses on Etruscan and Roman settlement archaeology, economy, and daily life, and she has published a number of articles and chapters on these topics. Her current work on the Roman pigment industry was first inspired by fieldwork in the Area Sacra di Sant’ Omobono in Rome that identified the remains of a Roman imperial pigment shop. Her current book project addresses pigments in the Roman world. She is also interested in the archaeometry, experimental archaeology, and economy of materials in the ancient Mediterranean world.
