Sarah E. Beckmann is an Assistant Professor of Roman archaeology at the University of California in Los Angeles. She received her BA from Carleton College and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean world. Her current research focuses on the late antique villa. She is in the process of writing her first book, which will consider local iterations of the villa habit and the human actors responsible for subtle but tangible distinctions in the material culture packages of these architectural structures. Her broader interests include Roman sculpture, late antique antiquarianism, and collecting in antiquity and the early modern era.
