Martin Pitts is Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter (Department of Classics and Ancient History). His principal area of research is the application of quantitative approaches in archaeology (esp. pottery) to gain new insights into social trends in Late Iron Age and Roman Europe. To date, this research has addressed the themes of social identity, health inequalities, urban hinterlands, and globalizing processes in Roman Britain, with a particular focus on illuminating the impact of overarching mechanisms on local communities and practices.
