Susan Wood is professor of art history at Oakland University in Michigan. She is the author of two books on Roman portraiture and has written a number of articles on Roman sculpture and minor arts. Most of her scholarship in recent decades has dealt with the images of Roman imperial women and their implications for the roles of women in Roman society. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Bryn Mawr College and her master’s degree and Ph.D. at Columbia University. She is a Fellow of the America Academy in Rome.
