John H. Oakley

John H. Oakley is chancellor professor and Forrest D. Murden, Jr., Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. A scholar of Greek painting, he is the author of numerous books and articles, including The Phiale Painter (Mainz 1990), The Achilles Painter (Mainz 1997), and Picturing Death in Classical Athens (Cambridge and New York 2004). He is a recipient of fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and served as the Andrew W. Mellon Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens from 2005 to 2008.
