T.H. Carpenter

T.H. Carpenter is the Charles J. Ping Professor of Humanities and Professor of Classics at Ohio University where he is also the chair of the Department of Classics and World Religions. He holds degrees from Johns Hopkins (BA), Harvard (MTS), and Oxford (D.Phil.). His research interests center on the ways imagery can contribute to an understanding of Greek religion, and he has written extensively on the iconography of Dionysos. His current project is a study of Dionysos in South Italy, and this work has led him to a reassessment of the nature of the markets of Apulian and Lucanian red-figure pottery.
