Rebecca R. Benefiel

Rebecca R. Benefiel is assistant professor of classics at Washington and Lee University, specializing in Latin epigraphy and Roman social history. Educated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, L'Università di Roma "La Sapienza," and Harvard University, she is a Fellow of the American Academy at Rome and was the 2008-2009 recipient of the Olivia James Traveling Fellowship from the Archaeological Institute of America. She has published articles on varied topics such as Plutarch, the Praetorian Guard, and ancient civic rivalries. Her current projects include publishing the ancient graffiti from Zeugma and from the villa of Oplontis outside Pompeii.
