The Gournia Palace

Jeffrey S. Soles

This paper is an architectural study of the central building at the Minoan site of Gournia. It includes a detailed description and a new state plan of the building, together with conjectural reconstructions and photographs of its excavation. It identifies the building as a palace, smaller but similar in design and function to the other palaces of Crete, and raises the possibility that it was the center of its own independent polity in the Late Minoan I period.
