Archaeology in Turkey Marie-Henriette Gates Three concurrent patterns in Turkish archaeology can be understood from the following report on the 1995 season's activities. The first and most obvious is the recent dramatic increase in field projects. Second, the vigorous health of archaeological fieldwork is broadening complementary research on related questions, the projects inspiring or encouraging others to pursue similar or parallel issues. Third, to balance the enormous increase in data concerning all periods, one can now welcome concerted efforts at synthesis. Topics covered in the newsletter are as follows: Bibliography Conferences Journals and selected publications Museum catalogues Festschrifts and memorials Miocene Era Pasalar Sinap Formation (Ankara) Karain and Öküzini Sakçagözü (Gaziantep) Regional Survey Besparmak Dagi/Latmos Istanbul Early Neolithic Hallan Çemi Nevali Çori Gürcütepe and Göbekli Tepe Aksaray-Nigde Survey Cappadocian Obsidian Survey Later Neolithic Yumuktepe-Mersin Kösh Höyük Çatalhöyük Pinarbasi/Konya Plain Bademagaci Höyük Orman Fidanligi Ilipinar Kumtepe Chalcolithic and Bronze Age Southeastern Anatolia and Cilicia Eastern, Northern, and Central Anatolia Western and Coastal Anatolia Dendochronology Archaeometry Archaeobotany Iron Age Eastern Anatolia Cilicia Central and Western Anatolia Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman Pamphylia, Pisidia Lycia Caria Lydia Aeolis-Mysia Troad Propontis, Bithynia, Pontus Phrygia Cappadocia Cilicia Southeast Anatolia Byzantine Amorium Kilise Tepe Çiftlik-Sinop AMasra Gemiler Ada-Fethiye Demre/Myra Xanthos Bursa Ganos/Gaziköy-Tekirdag Yassi Ada Shipwreck Selimiye-Bozburun Shipwreck Anastasian Wall Project, Thrace Byzantine Surveys Islamic Alanya Citadel Seljuk Kiosks and Gardens, Alanya Kubadabad Ercis Fortress-Çelebibagi Cemetary+Harran Aksaray Beçin Iznik Kilns Ottoman Kilns, Istanbul |
