 FIELD REPORT

Archaeological Research at Aphrodisias in Caria, 1994

R.R.R. Smith and Christopher Ratté

New York University's campaign of archaeological research at Aphrodisias in 1994 included site recording, limited excavation, and sculpture documentation and conservation. Among the main focuses of attention were the Bouleuterion and Sculptor's Workshop, the four- column monument at the Southwest Complex, the Stadium, the inscribed statue bases of the site, and the conservation and display of the Zoilos frieze. Highlights included the location of an important new city street, the discovery of a marble panel inscribed with four letters from the emperor Hadrian, and the completion of a large depot-workshop for the conservation and storage of marble sculpture.
